What in the name of KFC is happening in California? We've been hit with a
7.2 near the Northern California Coast, a
4.2 in L.A., and now a
6.7 aftershock. Oh I forgot
the 5.2 that happened the other day in SoCal as well. As you can see from the map above, we've been moving around like a martini in Sean Connery's hand. Who got us into this mess? Mainly god I suppose, but the other factor is the fact that right off the northern coast of California: a major battle over which part of the world stays on top and which one gets shoved into the bowels of the earth to become magma fodder. The Fault lines around it,
Mendocino and the
Cascadia subduction zone can cause a serious problem. This is where a plate slides along a fault as it's shoved under California in forced motion. What about L.A.? You might think it was our old pal San Andreas, but in fact it was the San Jacinto fault zone, which is a series of fault lines that cruise through lower central California.
As always pressure is a good thing for faults, the bigger the quake, the more pressure, and potential energy is released. Now everyone is Tsunami freaked, since we all know how our nation loves to be afraid and our news agencies feed us it like strained peas. Was I worried? Hrmm, let me check. Nope.
